Background:
I hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta in Strategic Management and Organization. While pursuing my degree, I attended a Creative Non-Fiction Writing class that changed my life in many ways. Prior to this class, I knew I had a love for writing, for my fondest childhood memories were of my sisters gathering in a circle around me in our basement, with their eyes wide open in anticipation, listening to my out-of-this-world stories.

However, it wasn’t until I enrolled in this Creative Non-Fiction Writing class that I discovered my PASSION for writing. It was the first time that homework felt like a hobby, and attending class felt like I was residing in a place of comfort, and not within an institution.

Upon completion of my course, my professor suggested I continue to write and pursue a career in writing. I thought he was just being ‘nice’….until he nominated me for ‘The University of Alberta Bookstore WRITE 200-level Prize in Non-Fiction Writing’ award. I was speechless. As I accepted my award, a voice within me was telling me that this would only be the beginning of something much larger. This blog, I believe, is the start of that- ‘something much larger.’

Since starting this blog, I have had the honor of working with great organizations and connecting with many fabulous women from around the world! I’am so grateful for every friendship I have made and thank each of you for your ongoing support and love!

Thank you for being on this journey with me, this blog would not be possible without you all!

Peace and Love,

Sumaira Zaheer
