Mommy Confession: My Ramadan and Eid Ul-Fitr decor is still up…oops!
So…..I decided to decorate the home for Ramadan and Eid-Ul-Fitr this year with rainbow themed decor, and my kids liked it so much that we decided to keep up the decor until Eid-Al-Adha. Okay, well I guess there’s more to it than that- I was so tired from spending Eid with my kids and hosting an Eid open house, that I had no energy to take the decor down…
I remember my husband coming home from work the night after Eid and asking me when I was planning to take down the shiny, spinning rainbow stars on the kitchen light fixture, that’s when I said to myself, “Why not leave everything up until Eid-Al-Adha?!” And so the stars have been spinning since!
The items I did take down right away were the Eid banner (because half of it was falling off from the wall anyways), and the kids took down the balloons, as they decided the balloons needed a bath in the kitchen sink along with the other dirty dishes- sigh! I also put away the super adorable Ramadan-Eid countdown blocks that I received from Hafsa Creates, as I was afraid the kids would end up spilling something on them and ruin them!
I actually put a lot of effort into making the Eid banner at midnight before Eid; I was exhausted from making the goodie bags for the kids and cleaning the home that the banner ended up being very last minute, but still a lot of work! AND because I put a lot of work into making the Eid banner, I decided to store it away to use for next Eid. Well, just a couple of days ago, I found the banner all ripped into pieces and drawn on IN THE GARBAGE BIN! I wanted to cry! I’m not sure which of my two younger children did it, as they won’t confess to it, but it just broke my heart to see all of that rainbow prettiness shredded and destroyed!
I guess another reason the rainbow Ramadan-Eid decor has been up for so long is because we just got so used to it that it became a part of our home decor instead of holiday decor- you know you need to inject some colour into your home when….
With all that said, I have decided that it’s finally time to take the rainbow stars down from my kitchen light fixture and untie the multicoloured ribbons from the lanterns….I can’t believe it’s actually happening!
I promise, it shall come down tonight, and stored in a very high place, away from little hands!
This my friends, is the reality of a Muslimah Mommy where everything is not always perfect within the household, but the household is happy nonetheless <3
