As a brand new mom of triplets, outings can be a bit of an adventure. On top of packing 3 car seats, 2 strollers, 1 extra large baby bag, and 1 bottle cooler backpack, I also have to pack patience- lots of it. Not because of my babies. Oh, no! The patience is to prepare for the slew of “one liners” and questions that have inevitably become part of my life.
My husband and I have tossed around the idea of creating an informative pamphlet to hand out to folks before they spurt out “one liners” and questions. People could simply refer to the pamphlet for the answers, we would save so much time! Apparently, handing out a pamphlet would be rude; hence, we did not pursue this avenue.
I’ve created a simple list that includes the top things not to say to a mom of multiples. The list includes the “one liners’ that we hear day in and day out, as well as the most annoying things that have ever been said to us. All of this is based on a true story.
1. “You have your hands full.”
There are very few things in life that are certain. Death is one of those things. For us, this one liner is the other.
2. “Are they natural?”
No. They are robots.
3. “Oh my goodness, they are TINY.”
This happens any time someone asks me how old my triplets are. You would think other mommies would know that no mommy wants their kid to be small. Considering mine were 2 lbs at birth, this TINY baby you are seeing is actually 5 times its birth weight. So there.
4. “Better you than me.”
I don’t even have a comment for this one, but it is said to us all the time!
5. “I’m so busy.”
I don’t even want to comment on this one. But, seriously. Don’t tell a mom with multiples that YOU are busy. You’re not. You just can’t manage your time.
You may find some of these hard to believe, but alas, they are all true!
Welcome to my #tripletlife.- a life that I wouldn’t change for the world.
